A stay on a country estate amidst the vines within an hour’s drive of Vienna – it might sound too good to be true, but Gut Oberstockstall has it all. The Salomon family’s self-sufficient estate has stylishly modern but warmly comfortable bedrooms, a superior organic vineyard, and a first-rate restaurant serving dishes to matchthe quality of the wines.


The estate has been in the hands of the Salomon family since 1867. More than 30 years ago, it was Eva Salomon who proved to be the culinary talent of the family. With fruit and vegetables grown in Gut Oberstockstall’s own garden, and meat from its own livestock, Eva put the flavours of the estate on a plate. Now it is her youngest son Matthias and his wife Elke who are continuing her traditions. Matthias runs the farm with his brother Fritz, who champions organic farming practises, with respect for people, soil and animals. His wife Birgit takes devoted care of the guestrooms.

Wine-lovers will be in their element at the tastings of wines from the estate vineyards. All the wines?are on sale, of course, and the estate shop also sells organic beef from the farm. Gut Oberstockstall also boasts a genuine Gothic chapel dating from the first half of the 14th century.
